NRL 2025: Newcastle Knights set to sack Adam O’Brien, board meeting, O’Brien axed, who will be next Knights coach, Blake Green, news, videos, highlights

Adam O’Brien’s coaching future will reportedly be decided on a crunch board meeting on Tuesday night, with the embattled coach set to be sacked.

That is according to the SMH, who are reporting O’Brien has informed club powerbrokers he is willing to walk away from the Knights at the season’s end.

O’Brien has two years remaining on his current contract, meaning the Newcastle club will reportedly contractually be obliged to pay him out 18 months of his deal.

However, a reduced 12-month settlement has reportedly been agreed upon, with Knights powerbrokers set to make their final decision on Tuesday evening.

O’Brien led Newcastle to four finals appearances in his six years in charge, but is currently in a battle to avoid the wooden spoon this season.

Josh Hannay was one candidate the Knights were reportedly keen on should they part ways with O’Brien, but has since signed a three-year deal with the Titans to replace Des Hasler.

Meanwhile, current assistant Blake Green is now the frontrunner to be handed the reins of the Hunter club, being backed by figures within the club.

Green is currently the Knights’ attacking coach, but is reportedly held in high regard by both the club’s bosses and players.
