Des Hasler has confirmed his coaching career isn’t over despite his early departure from the Gold Coast Titans.
Earlier this week, the Titans confirmed that Hasler, who had one season remaining on his three-year contract, would depart the Gold Coast-based club at the end of the season, with Sharks assistant Josh Hannay poised to take over in 2026 on a three-year deal.
Scott Sattler has been signed as a director of football while Anthony Laffranchi will take over a head of recruitment.
It’s been a turbulent couple of seasons for the Titans, who are favourites to take out this year’s wooden spoon having won only five games.

“I really enjoy coaching and will survey the landscape once I’ve had a bit of a break,” Hasler said.
“I’ll head back down to Sydney, assess everything and check out the lay of the land.
“We’ll see what happens going forward. It’s not retirement.”
Asked about his replacement, Hasler continued: “I’ve watched (Hannay) over the years.
“He’s had great tenures and exposure to the challenges that lie ahead.”

Hasler, with stints at Manly, Canterbury and Gold Coast, coached his 500th first grade game earlier this season, becoming just the sixth person to achieve the feat. Only Wayne Bennett, Tim Sheens, Brian Smith, Craig Bellamy and Ricky Stuart have coached more games than the 64-year-old, who won two premierships with the Sea Eagles in 2008 and 2011.
He also won two titles with the club as a player in 1987 and 1996.
Hasler’s overall winning rate as NRL coach is 54 per cent.
The Titans will face the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday at 4pm AEST.
